A series of physical maquettes built over custom 1:4 and 1:3 dress forms. These are exercises in garment design, pattern making, and construction at a small scale. The reduced scale allows for fast and non-linear work.
Preliminary sketches are interpreted as toile drafts draped over the dress form. These drafts are made of paper, masking tape and muslin and are then dismantled and flattened out as patterns, which are then progressively refined.
The garments are fabricated in starched cotton fabric, EVA foam, leather, and spacer mesh. The look is completed by the addition of accessories, and some parts are painted and weathered.
The heads and arms are 3D printed as well as traditionally sculpted. The core mannequin forms are cast in polyurethane foam using custom designed molds. The system is modular and parts are interchangeable.
